Monday’s Storms Keep Manvel Volunteer Fire Dept Busy

Just before 1 pm today, as mother nature was delivering us quite a light and sound show, Manvel Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to almost 2 simultaneous fire calls. The first one was at the 8000 block of Belcher Rd for a structure fire. Upon arrival smoke was visible and mutual aid was requested. Due to the quick action of the firefighters, the attic fire was put out less than 5 minutes later. No injuries were reported during the intervention and minimal damage to the property.

While the firefighters were still in the attic on Belcher a second call came in for a lightning strike on a house. That house is on Water Glen Ln in the Bluewater subdivision. Upon the arrival of the first fire unit, no smoke or fire was visible. After extensive verification, no evidence of fire has been found and all units went back in service.

This is a good time to remember to make sure your smoke detectors are functioning and it is never a bad idea to have one in the attic. Also, the Manvel Volunteer Fire Department is always looking for volunteers. You can get details at http://www.manvelvfd.org/.
